Raila looked for photo opportunities with Ruto, Gachagua says

Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Azimio leader Raila Odinga of looking for photo opportunities with President William Ruto. He was referring to the coincidence meetings between Ruto and Raila over the past weekend.

The two leaders were seen together during Kip Keino Classic in Kasarani and during Mashemeji Derby in Nyayo Stadium. Speaking on Thursday during a UDA meeting, Gachagua said Raila should follow them next weekend to take pictures.

“The other day Raila saw Ruto and he ran there to take pictures. When he sees him in a stadium he ran for pictures so that his people can remain calm,” he said. Gachagua added that President Ruto has no problem with photo opportunities.

“If Raila wants to know where we are so that he should come and take photos, let him come. If you see him, tell him on Saturday we shall be in Limuru, he should come and take photos but that will be far it will go,” he said.

He urged Azimio to take their rightful place; to oversight the government to ensure accountability. Raila has however maintained that his interaction with Ruto over the weekend in Nyandarua, Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums was not planned. He said they kept meeting by chance and that the only topic the two discussed was football.

“We were in Nyandarua, we went there in Njabini village for the funeral of late Field Marshal Mama Mukami Kimathi and we met there with Ruto, his deputy and his ministers. And of course, we shook hands. It was a chance meeting, we did not plan to meet there,” he said. Raila said he only shared a light moment with Ruto at the stadium and photos of them in a jovial mood were taken.
