Africa-Press – Kenya. Azimio la Umoja has laid down what it terms as terms of reference for its members in the joint Taskforce.
In a statement, the Coalition has also given a strict timeframe of 30 days to the Committee to finalise the process and present its report to Parliament.
“We reserve our right to call for demonstrations should this process not bear fruit,” the statement reads in part.
It has named Senators Ledama Ole Kina (Narok), Edwin Sifuna (Nairobi), Enoch Wambua (Kitui) and Malindi MP Amina Mnyanzi.
MPs Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), David PKosing (Pokot South) and Rarieda’s Otiende Amollo.
Apart from its earlier demands on the cost of living and auditing of IEBC servers before and after the 2022 poll, it also wants a review of circumstances that led to the dismissal of the IEBC Cherera Four commissioners with a view to reinstating them.
“The team should review the appointment and dismissal of IEBC Commissioners, including their tenure of office, and recommend institutional, policy, legal, and constitutional mechanisms, restructuring and reforms of the IEBC,” it states.
On the planned restructuring of IEBC, Azimio recommends that the structures be devolved to the counties and “whether the country really needs commissioners working on a permanent basis.”
The agreement was arrived at after a lengthy deliberation by the Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting in Machakos.
The members are also required to review and recommend changes in the law that will entrench party discipline.
This, the leaders said will see MPs who cross party lines after elections to seek a fresh mandate from the electorate and allow parties to replace nominated MPs who cross party lines.
A legislative proposal to address the electoral, governance and economic gaps identified during the inquiry for consideration by the Houses is also part of the scope of the Azimio team.
Earlier on, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka warned their negotiators against being influenced in whatever way by their opponents.
Kalonzo told the members to remain firm and committed to deliver on the aspirations of the Azimio la Umoja noting those who fail the test will be recalled.
“When you get out there…and, we see your body language is changing we shall recall you unapologetically,” Kalonzo asserted.
