Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has pledged Kenya’s support to neighbouring Somalia after a terror attack that left over 100 people dead.

The Saturday attack involved two car bombings at a busy junction in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.

Addressing the media on Sunday, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said there are 300 casualties, and the count is expected to rise.

According to Somalia Police Force spokesperson Sadiq Dudishe, they include journalists and police officers.

Ruto also pledged to work with other countries to ensure peace and security in the East African region.

“The people of Kenya stand with Somalia following terrorist attacks that claimed over 100 lives. We commit to working with other countries to ensure peace and security prevail in the region,” he tweeted.

Al Shabaab militant group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Egypt also spoke up, calling on the international community to help end terrorism.

In a statement by the Spokesman for the country’s Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid, he sent a message of condolence to the government and people of Somalia.
