Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has flown back to the country after a weekend away. The President landed back on Monday evening after his tour of the neighboring Uganda and Tanzania.

He was received by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Chief of Defence Forces Robert Kibochi and the National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa.

Ruto was accompanied by the First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto. He went to Uganda on Saturday, spent the night there and attended the country’s Independence Day celebrations on Sunday.

During his visit, he held talks on strengthening bilateral ties with President Yoweri Museveni. He delivered a speech at the Kololo stadium on Sunday, winning the hearts of many Ugandans.

He promised to work towards eliminating regional trade barriers that affect movement of goods, persons and services On Sunday evening, the Head of State jetted to Tanzania.

Ruto held talks with President Samia Suluhu. The two leaders agreed to promote trade relations and unity among the two countries. “Officials should help to remove the barriers that make it difficult to run a smooth tourism activity so that business can benefit both countries,” Ruto said.

The visits were a part of Ruto’s efforts to familiarize himself with the neighboring country’s counterparts as he kicks off his tenure as Kenya’s fifth President. His visit to Uganda and Tanzania were his first since he became President.
