Africa-Press – Kenya. Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has billed President William Ruto as one who will unite Kenyans. In a statement on Saturday, Ngunyi said that Ruto’s reception in Nyanza region, Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s backyard, shows that he is ready to unite the country.

“Maybe, just maybe, Ruto is the man who will unify the country. His reception in Nyanza, the enemy territory is telling and maybe I am wrong. But from what I am seeing, I do not choose to be right. At least for now,” he said.

This comes after Ruto pitched tents in Nyanza region for two days on a state visit. Ruto traversed Homabay, Kisumu and Siaya counties to launch development projects.

Ruto thanked Nyanza leaders for agreeing to work with the government despite their political affiliation. Nyanza region is the home turf of Azimio leader Raila Odinga. Residents have been overwhelmingly voting for him the many times he has vied for the presidency.

Ruto who competed with Raila in the last elections recalled that he got minimal votes from Nyanza and especially Homa Bay where he said he got only one per cent of votes.

In the company of his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto got a warm reception from residents and leaders in the region. Ruto landed in Homa Bay on Friday for the start of his two-day tour of the Nyanza region.

He was received by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Governor Gladys Wanga among other Azimio leaders from the region. On Saturday, Ruto arrived in Bondo, Siaya County on his second-day visit.

He presided over the launch of the Blue Economy research hub at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of science and technology in Siaya. He was accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Ruto was welcomed by Siaya Governor James Orengo and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga who is also the brother to Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.
