Ruto: Kalonzo has nothing to show for his time in power

Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has sustained his political attack on Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing the former Vice President of having nothing to show for his long stint in leadership.

Ruto questioned Kalonzo’s suitability for highest office in the country saying the former Vice President has no development record.

Speaking on Sunday at Covenant Church International in Rotian, Narok County, Ruto told congregants that Kenya could not afford to be led by politicians without a clear track record of delivery.

He challenged leaders seeking to compete with him politically to account for their past performance while in public office.

“If a person has been in leadership for 10 years, and has not built any road, no school, no church, is that a person to be elected?” Ruto posed.

Without mentioning Kalonzo by name, the President said some leaders had spent decades in politics without delivering tangible development to the people they served.

He argued that longevity in public life should translate into visible achievements on the ground.

“Someone has been in politics for 40 years and has not built anything, no school, no church, no road,” Ruto said. “Even if we do not look at what he has done nationally, what has he done in his home area? Even in his home, nothing.”

Ruto said leadership must be anchored on accountability and results, not popularity or political theatrics.

He urged voters to scrutinise those seeking office and demand proof of what they have accomplished during their time in power.

“It is good to say the truth. I want to challenge my competitors to show us their track records because they have been leaders in this country,” he said. “I can show my track record as a leader; let them show us theirs.”

The President added that leadership should be measured by service delivery rather than applause at rallies.

“As leaders, we must be accountable. You should not be a person who people just clap for and dance for. You must deliver,” he said.

Ruto further stated that anyone seeking to challenge him politically must first present a clear agenda and demonstrate past performance.

“They want to compete with me, and I have insisted that they must first have an agenda and then show Kenyans your track record,” he said.

The remarks come amid heightened political tension between Ruto and Kalonzo Musyoka, with development projects—particularly roads—emerging as a key battleground.

During a recent visit to Turkana County, Ruto criticised Kalonzo over the condition of the road leading to his Tseikuru home, questioning the former Vice President’s ability to deliver development during his years in government.

Musyoka has since hit back, accusing Ruto of unfairly targeting him during a church service instead of focusing on worship.

He has also blamed the current administration for neglecting projects initiated by previous governments and politicising development for political gain.
