Ruto Lays Down the Law for New DP Kindiki—And He’s All In

Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has sent a special plea to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as he assumes office as the new Deputy President.

Speaking after Kindiki’s swearing-in ceremony at the KICC on Friday, November 1, Ruto pleaded with Kindiki to hold his hand and work hand in hand with him and help him achieve what he has not been able to achieve in the last two years when Rigathi Gachagua served as the Deputy President.

“I have almost become a lonely voice in the executive, especially the presidency, speaking about our projects, our programs, elaborating on what we are doing. You are intelligent, my brother, I am confident that you will do that which I have missed for the last two years, I know you will,” Ruto affirmed.

Ruto expressed his confidence in Kindiki, terming him as eloquent, patriotic, and intelligent. He also termed him as an exceptional, dedicated, highly competent professional who has consistently delivered results.

On his part, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki confirmed his loyalty to President William Ruto as he officially began his duties as the second in command. Kindiki assured President William Ruto that he would support him in achieving a more transformed Kenya.

“I am grateful for the honor you have given me to serve under you. I have been your political student for nearly 20 years, and nothing has taught me more than the years I have walked and served alongside you in various capacities,” the deputy president said.

“I promise you, before this congregation and before God that I will not let you down for the privilege you have given me,” Kindiki assured.

The new Deputy President also thanked all the institutions that facilitated the process leading to his assumption of office, noting that recent events in the country “are a testament to our maturity and the strength of our systems.”

“Whatever has happened the last few weeks and in the recent past is a testament to the maturity of our democracy and is a testament that our institutions work.” Kindiki hailed the constitutional process that saw former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua be impeached.

He expressed gratitude to President Ruto for choosing him as his deputy and assured that he will deliver to the fullest on the responsibility the President has bestowed on him.

“I affirm that throughout my journey culminating in this moment, I have come to believe that Kenya is a country of possibilities,” Kindiki stated.

Kindiki acknowledged his journey noting that it was a historical moment for someone like him, coming from Mt. Kenya East to hold such a powerful position. “For someone like me to stand here and take the oath of the office of Deputy President can only happen in Kenya.”

Kindiki has assumed the office of the Deputy President after the Senate upheld a decision of 282 Members of Parliament to impeach former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
