Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has joined other leaders in mourning former Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut who passed on Saturday morning.
In a statement on Saturday, the President sent a message of condolence to Chepkut’s family and friends.
He described Chepkut as an astute politician who was known for his humility and humour.
“Mr Chepkut was down-to-earth and a witty politician who served his people with dedication,” the President said.
The former MP’s family confirmed his death saying he collapsed in his house and was rushed to Mediheal hospital Parklands where he was pronounced dead.
The family said Chepkut had been battling kidney disease for a long time and was admitted to the hospital between late last year and early this year.
He served as the Ainabkoi MP from 2017 to 2022, when he was succeeded by UDA’s Samwel Chepkonga.
He was previously a personal assistant to the late veteran politician Nicholas Biwott.
Other leaders who have mourned the “humble and social” leader include Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Konoin MP Leonard Yegon, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa.
Molo MP Kuria Kimani said he was a lively MP.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen also mourned him, as he recalled their last moments together on Friday night.
“William was a very lovely guy extremely connected and Loyal to his seniors almost to a fault,” Murkomen tweeted.
