Ruto Promises Construction of Kitengela-Rongai Road and Dualling of Isinya-Konza City Road

President William Ruto has announced plans to construct the 30-kilometre road connecting the populous Kitengela town in Kajiado East sub-County to Ong’ata Rongai township in Kajiado North Sub-County, ending years of public outcry.

The road runs parallel to the Nairobi National Park boundary and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line to the Tuala neighbourhood. It then extends past the African Nazarene University to the SGR Ong’ata Rongai station, continuing to Rimpa before finally connecting to Magadi Road.

While speaking during the Thanksgiving Ceremony for the Principal Secretary for Justice, Human Rights, and Constitutional Affairs, Judith Pareno, on Saturday, February 28, Ruto promised to launch the construction himself.

“We have the money to build that road. I will come to launch the construction myself once I deal with a few issues,” Ruto announced.

Last rehabilitated in 2014, the road is in a deplorable state, with residents and transporters facing massive losses.

The road serves as a vital economic route for transporting quarry stones and pozzolana from Sholinke and Nkurunka, since it touches a part of Machakos County in the Embakasi area. Most cement processors outsource pozzolana from these areas.

While announcing his basket of promises to the residents of Kajiado County, President Ruto also announced that the government will construct the Isinya-Konza Road (designated as the B50).

According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the B50 will link the Athi River-Namanga Road (A2) at Isinya with Konza Technopolis and the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway (A8) at Malili.

The road that spans approximately 50 km, traversing Kajiado (38km), Machakos, and Makueni counties, is expected to be upgraded and dualled to support high speeds (up to 120km/h).

The bypass serves as a strategic transport corridor to decongest the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway and provide direct access to the Konza Technopolis.

At the same time, the Head of State announced that the 63-kilometre Isara (Emali Junction)-Mashuuru-Imaroro road will be upgraded to a B2 road, with the tendering to be announced in March 2026.

“We are not going to recarpet the road. We will build it afresh,” Ruto announced.
