Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto on Sunday expressed gratitude to Homa Bay residents and the Nyanza region at large for voting for him during the August elections.
Speaking in Homa Bay Town after a church service at Africa Inland Church, Ruto said he is ready to work with all the elected leaders to transform the county.
“We will work with all the leaders so that we can transform Homa Bay. We are going to work together so that we can serve you as the people who have elected us,” he said.
He said he will work toward fulfilling the promises he made during the campaigns.
“I want to assure you that the agreement we made between the people of Homa Bay when I came here for our economic forum, that commitment, I am going to work with all elected leaders in Homa Bay and across the country so that we can transform our country on the basis we have agreed upon,” he said.
The head of state added that the time for competition is over and people should move on to try to better things in the country.
“We have to move on and see the changes we can do for our country. That will be possible if we come together and understand that now we are not in competition,” he said.
Ruto’s Sunday visit to Homa Bay county was the first since his election.
However, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Homa Bay Town MP George Peter Kaluma failed to join Ruto for a church service.
In a statement on Sunday, Wanga said she is at the moment out of the country hence the reason why she will be absent.
“I wish to extend a warm welcome to the president on behalf of the great people of Homa Bay and request him to feel at home. I am, however, out of the country on official duty and will therefore be unable to join him for the church service,” she said.
Kaluma said he will not be at the service for lack of means to reach the venue on time.
He added that poor communication and coordination also contributed to him missing the service.
“Just got information that President William Ruto will be in Homa Bay today. Welcome. I’m unable to be with you due to a lack of means. Let there be better coordination in future so that the MP whose Constituency you’re visiting has information and is available to receive you,” he tweeted.
