Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has said the number of recruits joining the National Youth Service will double beginning next year.

Speaking on Friday during the National Youth Service 86th passing out parade in Gilgil, Ruto said the Youth Service will recruit 20,000 from the 10,000 that the institution currently takes in.

” We want to enhance annual intake from 10,000 to 20,000 youths. We will double the number of recruits that will come in here from next year. Once we have assessed the facilities that we require to make that possible,” the Head of State said.

Ruto said this aims at creating opportunities for millions of youths in the country.

He also directed four ministries in his administration to set aside at least 30 per cent of their vacancies for NYS graduates to encourage and motivate young Kenyans on

“I have directed the Ministry of Defence, Energy, Tourism, Interior and National Coordination to consider the young ones,” he said.

Ruto said his government will ensure a majority of young people explore their expertise and acquire knowledge with the enhanced enrolment.

There were 11,692 graduates during the pass-out parade at Gilgil, with 8,421 being men and 3,271 servicewomen.

28 were persons with disability.
