Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has waded into the matter surrounding former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju. Speaking while addressing the residents of Nyanza, Ruto stated that Tuju needed honest friends.
According to the President, Tuju was being misled by his political rivals in the opposition. “Tuju needs honest friends and advisers. They told him to go and hide in his bedroom and lie that he had been abducted. They are seeking prominence from Tuju,” said Ruto during a roadside rally.
“We want Tuju to be advised so that he can secure his property and move forward. He does not need those people.”
On Monday, March 23, Tuju resurfaced on TV. Tuju had gone missing on Saturday evening, together with his aide, Steve Mwanga. A missing report had been made for both Tuju and Mwanga at the Karen Police Station.
Tuju’s motor vehicle was later discovered abandoned along Miotoni Lane, with its hazard lights still on. A security guard from a nearby institution alerted authorities, prompting a swift response by officers from Karen Police Station.
The scene was processed by crime scene investigators, and the vehicle has since been towed to Karen Police Station for further forensic examination. Efforts to reach Tuju had been unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remained switched off.
A specialised investigative team had been deployed and was working in coordination with relevant government agencies to establish his whereabouts. Moments after resurfacing, Tuju broke his silence over his recent disappearance, explaining why he chose not to report to the police after allegedly being trailed by unknown individuals.
According to Tuju, individuals believed to be police officers had previously visited his residence using vehicles without number plates, an incident he said raised serious concerns about their identity and intentions.
“Police have been to my residence without number plates on their vehicles. How do you go to report to them?” he posed on Monday.
The former Cabinet Secretary said the experience left him uneasy and forced him to reconsider his options, ultimately choosing to go into hiding rather than risk what he described as a potentially dangerous encounter.He revealed that he sought refuge from a family in Kiambu after being trailed by unknown individuals in an unmarked vehicle.
