Sakaja tells off journalist over parking fee complaint

Africa-Press – Kenya. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Saturday tactically dismissed a complaint by Nation Media journalist Zainab Ismail over parking fees charges at the Nairobi Central Business District.

Zainab had taken to her Twitter page to allege that she had been defrauded after paying Sh6,800 for parking fees instead of Sh200.

“So I just realised Nairobi City Government charged me 6,800 instead of 200 shillings for parking in the CBD. This is clearly fraud! And on a day that is literally difficult to make a complaint,” she said.

She went on to implore the Nairobi governor to take action on the matter noting that many Kenyans had raised similar complaints as hers.

“Sakaja Johnson this needs to be addressed because I am not the first to complain about this.”

But in a rejoinder, the governor gave a breakdown of how the Sh6,800 parking fee was calculated, further revealing that she had defaulted on paying the parking fees for three days.

“You failed to pay on December date 19, 21, and 23 so today the accumulated penalties were applied to the bill as detailed below: December 19, 2022, Sh. 2,200, December 21, 2022, Sh2,200 and December 23, 2022 Sh2,200. Today Sh200 Total Shs6,800.”
