Africa-Press – Kenya. Senators have approved the nomination of four senators to serve in the speaker’s panel. This follows a motion by majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot seeking the nod of the House to approve the names.

“We nominated the members in consultation with the minority leader. This is a very important panel,” Cheruiyot said.

They are senators Hillary Sigei (Bomet), Veronica Nduati (nominated), Abdul Haji (Garissa) and Catherine Mumma (nominated). The four will preside over the House business in the absence of the speaker and deputy speaker.

The senators have also approved four members to sit in the procedure and rules committee. They are Mohammed Abass (Wajir), Joseph Ngugi (Muranga) and Beth Syengo (nominated).

Meanwhile, the House also approved nominees who will sit sit in the powers and privileges committee. They are Alexander Mundigi (Embu) Wamatinga Wahome (Nyeri) Rosalinda Tuiya (nominated) Abdulahi Miraj (nominated) James Lomenen (Turkana) Shakila Mohamed (nominated). The panel which deals with members welfare and disciplinary action will be chaired by Speaker Amason Kingi.
