Africa-Press – Kenya. Siaya governor Orengo has congratulated the county sports team for their heroic performance at the just concluded Kenya Youths Inter-County Sports Association in Tharaka Nithi.
In a statement, the governor said: ” My hearty congratulations to Team 041 for representing Siaya County in the 8th edition of Kenya Youth Intercounty Sports Association (KYISA) Games in Tharaka Nithi County.
“Special considerations to our Ladies’ basketball team for clinching the trophy, cash awards, several medals, and for being the most disciplined team.”
He added: “I equally appreciate our Ladies’ football and volleyball teams for their splendid performance which earned them trophies and cash awards as first runners-up and position four respectively.”
Siaya County Ladies’ teams scooped seven trophies, 35 medals, and a cash reward of Sh 200,000. The basketball queens had earned two trophies and a cash reward of Sh 100,000 after thrashing Makueni 47-28 in a tension-packed game at Chuka University grounds.
Siaya women’s basketball also got two trophies for being the best and most disciplined team respectively. Each team member received a gold medal. Siaya’s football women’s team succumbed to Makueni 5-0 in the final match at Kirubia Stadium. They subsequently received medals, Sh75,000, and a trophy by virtue of finishing runners-up.
In the volleyball category, Siaya Ladies emerged 4th after they were beaten by Busia 3-0 sets, earning a cash reward of Sh 25,000. In football, Homabay emerged winners after a penalty shootout against Migori. Both teams played to a barren draw in normal and extra time, prompting penalty shoot-out.
