Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Ruby Union (KRU) Championship side South Coast Pirates have signed nine players as they seek to qualify for the Kenya Cup.

“The new signings will increase our chances of qualifying for the Kenya Cup. We now have depth in our squad and this will increase competition in the squad,” said coach Kevin Amiani.

He added: “We have managed 15 points from three games in the first three games. I believe we are on the right track. Our main goal is promotion for the top tier league.”

The new signings are Brighton Omondi, James Anei, Mohammed Hajj, Kelly Agengo, Brian Mokua, Gilbert Ochieng, Newton Okeyo and Leon Oloo.

At the same time, Western Bulls were the most active during this transfer window, acquiring seven players.

The former Kenya Cup side signed Robert Murunga, Allan Otieno, Brevia Mbukenya, Mike Omondi, Duncan Shighali, John Baraka, and Samuel Wafula who joined on loan from Kabras Sugar.

Another KRU Championship side and 1997 Enterprise Cup winners Mombasa have five players joining their ranks.

They are Charles Wesonga, Hillary Meshack, Kevin Chege, and Malebo Kim Kuloba from TUM Marines and Billy Baya (Kilifi).

United States International University Africa did not sign any player in the transfer window, coach Tom Lagat said.

“I will have to rely on the current players. The good thing is that most of the players who were out with injuries are now back in training and will be available against Muliro University of Science and Technology on January 20,” said Lagat.”

MMUST did not equally sign any player in the mid-season transfer window. Coach John Asila said: “We shall hold trials later this month, where we will target players who have just cleared high school. In March, we shall also have players joining us under the talent scholarship,” noted Asila.
