Africa-Press – Kenya. A form two student at Mokwerero Secondary school, Nyamira County, was arrested after he was found brandishing a machete within the school compound.
Reports indicated that the 18-year-old student had plans to hack Deputy Principal Jared Morara with the weapon, claims the police are yet to verify.
The student was reportedly seized by one of the teachers who found him sharpening the machete as he planned to attack the teacher on Wednesday morning, January 13.
The school principal Kennedy Ogecha, confirmed that police had already taken over the matter.
This report comes hours after another student, in Form 3, stabbed two teachers in Kisii. The student allegedly committed the act after being summoned to the teacher’s staff room and reprimanded for reporting to class late.
The two teachers were rushed to Ram hospital in Kisii town after they sustained injuries. The 17-year-old student was later on arraigned in court and released on Ksh50,000 cash bail or Ksh100,000 bond.
Cases of violent conduct committed by young Kenyans have increased since learners reported back to school on Monday, January 4.
A university student is also facing murder charges after being accused of murdering four of his family members and a construction worker.
The gruesome murder saw Lawrence Warunge reportedly kill his father, mother, nephew, his brother and the worker before fleeing to stay with a relative.
Warunge, a 22-year-old University student, allegedly went missing days after the incident but was arrested despite switching off his phone. The police managed to track down his last signal at his hideout in Lower Kabete, Kiambu County.
A lady who was later confirmed to be his girlfriend was also arrested.
Both Warunge and his girlfriend are being detained at the Gigiri and Muthaiga Police station respectively as investigations continue.
