Africa-Press – Kenya. Swimming stakeholders want to form a breakaway federation following the failure of the Sport Dispute Tribunal (SDT) to chart a way forward on Kenya Swimming Federation.
Sources say the stakeholders are fed up with the John Ohaga-led Tribunal, which has failed to conduct elections after the passage of a new constitution last year.
However, efforts to reach Ohaga for comment have remained fruitless after numerous unanswered phone calls.
The source said: “We are tired of this impasse. We keep going round in circles since 2017. It’s better they stay with KSF and we form our own association despite the backlash we might get from FINA.”
Seven counties; Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kiambu, Kajiado and Uasin Gishu are behind the move to form a new body.
“Our swimmers are suffering from the wrangles and it’s time we looked at their interest if we are to save the sport from going under,” added the source.
The elections have been put on hold for two years after four members of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) went to the high court stopping the polls. The case is yet to be heard and determined.
World governing body FINA has suspended Kenyan officials from world events and sources intimate that the country is also staring at a ban very.
