Africa-Press – Kenya. After an impressive fourth-place finish at the Africa Senior Championships in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe last week, Team Kenya are looking forward to the Lagos Squash Classics in Nigeria between November 21 and 26.

Egypt won the team title ahead of South Africa while Nigeria were third. In the singles competition, Muqtadir Nimji emerged position 5/7 after he hammered Adegoke Onaopemipo of Nigeria 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-8) while James Dalidi finished position 7/9.

“I’m really proud of how my team performed in Zimbabwe especially after they beat former champions Zambia. Our eyes are now set on the Lagos tournament,” said coach Prince Mukuka.

Kenya beat Zambia 2-1, their first win against the Southern Africans at the All Africa Seniors Championships.

Mukuka said the Lagos tournament will feature 20 African teams with three representatives each.

“We are still waiting for the squash president, Gakuo Ndirangu, to name the team that will represent Kenya for the tournament,” said Mukuka, adding that they expect to return to training on Wednesday after a three-day break.

“We need to start our training early since we will be traveling to Nigeria the following week which makes our schedule really tight.”

Meanwhile, Mukuka said they are keeping their fingers crossed as they await facilitation from the government, including tickets.

“The boys have a really big challenge ahead of them since each country will send its top three players,” said Mukuka, adding that reaching the last eight remains their bare minimum.
