Africa-Press – Kenya. Three Kenyan teams depart on Friday for the East and Central Africa Handball Club Championship (ECAHF) set for this weekend in Zanzibar.

Reigning women champions Nairobi Water Queens and National Cereals and Produce Board (men and women teams) will fly the country’s flag in the eight-day show.

Queens, who are also Kenya champions and remain unbeaten in the league, will be eyeing their ninth successive regional crown.

Team manager Caroline Kusa yesterday revealed that the training has gone on well and the team is all set for the show.

“We have been training well. Wednesday was our last training session before traveling and we are optimistic,” she offered.

Like Queens, national men’s champions NCPB are also unbeaten locally.

They lost 28-27 to Rwanda Police in a fiercely fought final last year and will be seeking to make amends.

“We have been training well. The mood at the training camp has been superb. I believe this time we are bringing it home,” said team manager Boniface Macharia.

Coach Dan Eshikumo said they have no injury worries and are ready despite not lining up any friendlies to gauge their level.

“This year, we are going to rectify our mistakes and everybody is psyched up for the games,” the tactician said.

ECAHF secretary Charles Omondi confirmed that 11 clubs from Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Zanzibar will take part in the tournament.

The teams are- Rwanda Police (Rwanda), DR Conga Police men and women DR Congo), Ngome and JKT (Tanzania) and Nyuki (Zanzibar).

Also headed for the 39th edition of the event are SOS and Sisters Handball Club from Burundi.
