Transformers zimekufa! Gachagua decries drugs effects on families

Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said alcohol is destroying families in Nyeri. Gachagua complained that partners cannot sire children because they are drunk all the time.

“Sasa hawa vijana wetu wamekunywa pombe wanalala kwa mtaro, wengine wameoa wasichana wadogo wanalala chini ya kitanda sasa tutatoa watoto wapi, how? Transformers zimekufa tunajaribu kuweka charge haishiki moto, sasa si tutapata shida. Tuko na shida jameni,” he said.

(Our sons engage in alcohol and end up sleeping on the terrains. Some have married young girls and they sleep under the bed. Where and how will we get children? Transformers are dead and when we try to make them work they don’t, we are having problems).

He spoke during the inaugural graduation at Mukurwe-ni Technical Training Institute, Nyeri County. The DP added that local leaders know the drug peddlers.

He accused the chiefs of trying to protect them from being arrested. The DP told the leaders of the area that when they allow drugs to be sold, their own children will end up consuming them.

He gave chiefs a stern warning over the drug menace in Nyeri County. Gachagua said chiefs should not earn salaries if they cannot end drugs in their areas.

“The war on alcohol and drug abuse is on and the government policy on that matter is very clear. I pronounced it very clearly on behalf of President William Ruto that chiefs and their assistants are incompatible with drugs and illicit alcohol,” he said.

“In a location, we cannot have chiefs and illicit alcohol at the same time. One has to give way and since alcohol cannot make a decision because it has no mind, the person to make the decision is the chief. The Chief should decide if it is him who will stay in the location or the drugs.” The DP issued an 11-day ultimatum for them to decide whether they will end drugs or not.
