Tusker coach Matano up in arms after being branded 'Juju Man'

Africa-Press – Kenya. Tusker head coach, Robert Matano has dismissed allegations made by his counterpart at AFC Leopards Patrick Aussems that he allegedly uses black magic to win league games.

Matano said he felt enraged by the comments Aussems wrote on his Twitter account on Thursday, that accused him of allegedly employing underhand tactics against Kenyan Premier League opponents.

“Unfortunately we have been punished at the last minute due to a lack of aggressiveness! Congrats to the players of Tusker. Of course, l won’t talk about an old coach with no international experience who is more a juju man than a tactician… one could learn,” Aussems wrote.

Aussems made the remarks after his charges crashed 1-0 to the Ruaraka-bases brewers at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday. Matano asserted that Aussems was in denial and shame following the defeat in the exciting match that saw several missed opportunities on both sides.

“He should accept that we won the match fair and square instead of talking about witchcraft,” Matano said.

The seasoned tactician who has vowed to propel the brewers to their second consecutive title this season threatened to resort to the corridors of justice to seek legal recourse against Aussems.

“I consider it character assassination and reserve the right to take action,” Matano said.

In response to claims that he holds inferior coaching credentials, Matano wondered why the outspoken Belgian gaffer has been stuck in Africa for a while now and not landed a role in Europe if he is indeed as good as he purports to be.

Aussems had claimed in one of his tweets that Matano lacked the prerequisite expertise and exposure to succeed in the industry. “What success does he want to see? I transverse the continent both at the club level and with the national team as a player.

“I have guided teams in the Champions League and Confederations Cup so I don’t understand what else he expects to see to be convinced that I am better than him,” Matano said.

“What is he still doing here if he feels he is better than us? If he considers himself highly qualified, he should have located a reputable club to guide in Europe by now,” he added.

“It’s interesting that the person making all of these claims hasn’t won a single trophy with Leopards despite managing the team for the past three years and receiving a sizable salary.$

Matano urged Aussems to temper his rhetoric and get off of his high horse because his careless speech and behavior would be extremely detrimental to local football.

Matano said that Aussem’s confrontational nature has already put him at loggerheads with his colleagues and match officials, and asked him to refrain from being melodramatic.

“His chest-thumping exploits irritate everyone, including the referees and other coaches. He needs to stop being dramatic and focus on what brought him to Leopards. He is not the first white man to handle leopards, after all.”
