Africa-Press – Kenya. The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will conduct Repeat Phase II Grassroots Elections across 18 counties as part of its internal party democracy process on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

The party announced that the elections will be held in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Bungoma, Makueni, Machakos, Kitui and Isiolo.

Others are Marsabit, Taita Taveta, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and Turkana counties.

UDA said that Kajiado County will conduct its exercise on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

According to the party, more than 450,000 candidates have registered to contest for 20 elective positions at polling centres nationwide.

The positions cut across various interest groups, including women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, religious representatives, professionals, and MSMEs and traders.

The party estimates that approximately eight million voters will participate in the exercise across more than 9,000 polling centres.

UDA noted that it has already successfully conducted grassroots elections in 25 counties as part of the ongoing nationwide exercise.

On technology use, the party said it will deploy end-to-end digital systems to manage voting, with 9,500 electronic voting tablets already distributed to polling centres.

Results will be made publicly available through the party’s online portal at www.uda.ke.

Voting will begin at 8 am and close at 5 pm across all designated centres.

The exercise is expected to produce 182,240 elected grassroots officials who will serve as the party’s local leadership structure with a direct mandate from members.

On April 1, UDA postponed its Repeat Phase II grassroots elections to give party members additional time to register and verify their details.

The elections were originally scheduled for Thursday, April 9.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki described the exercise as ambitious but important, emphasising its role in strengthening internal party democracy and ensuring a fair representation of members at the grassroots.

In its notice, the party reassured members that NEB remains committed to conducting transparent and orderly elections.

“Eligible members are invited to register and confirm their details strictly in accordance with the provided timelines in preparation for the elections,” the statement said.

UDA has been conducting grassroots elections in phases across different counties as it seeks to establish leadership structures from the polling station level to the national level.

The party has maintained that the process is designed to empower members at the grassroots and ensure leaders are directly accountable to party supporters.

The UDA grassroots elections are a key part of the party’s internal governance, aimed at electing leaders at ward, constituency, and county levels, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
