Africa-PressKenya. The ongoing supremacy battle in Kirinyaga County has finally caught President Uhuru Kenyatta’s eye.

This follows a protracted tussle between Governor Anne Waiguru and Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici.

Speaking at the Sagana State Lodge, on Monday, October 18, President Kenyatta called for the two to unite and work together as a team so as to achieve faster development and prosperity for their county.

President Kenyatta also cautioned the leaders against politics of deceit and empty rhetoric saying good leadership emphasizes peace, cohesion and unity of the people as enablers of development.

He added that the various multi-billion development projects being implemented by the Government in Kirinyaga was only possible because of the leaders putting their heads together. This includes the Ksh8.5 billion Thiba Dam.

“We have fulfilled these projects because of the cooperation and peace among leaders which has ensured that we not only transform the lives of the residents of Kirinyaga but also all citizens of Kenya,” Kenyatta stated.

He added that the projects would not only transform the economy of Kirinyaga but also the country.

“Our rice farmers are now getting better prices for their produce. All this is happening because of work and not because of empty rhetoric,” the president reiterated.

Waiguru, while reading memoranda from the leaders of the county thanked for his visionary leadership, stating that he had transformed the lives of the people of Kirinyaga especially through the national projects.

Kirinyaga Governor and Ngirici have been at loggerheads with their recent spat over billboards.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, who has also been linked to the county top job was roped into the scuffle. He ruled in favour of Waiguru but is now engaged in a new battle with the latter.

They have since been engaged in a push and pull over invitation cards ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations.

In a statement, Waiguru stated that she hoped that the leaders would be “civil” during the Mashujaa Day celebration, which will be held at the Wang’uru Stadium on Wednesday.
