Uhuru, Ruto Have Only One Viable Choice - Martha Karua

Africa-Press – Kenya. Narc Kenya party leader, Martha Karua, now says that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, should resign from office.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV’s Waihiga Mwaura, Karua explained that the ongoing feud between Uhuru and Ruto was endangering the country’s unity and that their only sensible choice is to resign.

The Narc Kenya party leader further explained that the public spat between the two leaders was a bad show and they should step down from their respective offices to save face and safeguard Kenya’s future.

Karua reprimanded the President and his deputy for making their feud public, adding that it amounted to disrespecting Kenyans and the voters.

“Bringing their wars to the public arena is disrespectful to us, the voters. As leaders, they must look for a way to have minimum conditions for working together, if not, the government should resign,” the Narc Kenya party leader stated.

“I have no idea what went wrong but I have seen these exchanges which only bring tension to the country between the people who support the various factions and I think it is totally unhealthy. This has been going on for a while and I think it is getting worse.”

Karua also addressed Uhuru’s involvement in his succession, noting that the President is a voter and he is entitled to make his voice heard. She drew examples from the United States where Barrack Obama openly campaigned for his former deputy and now President, Joe Biden.

“In our context, when you go back, President Daniel Moi did show his hand in Uhuru’s campaigns in 2002. President Mwai Kibaki, although, it was common knowledge that he supported Uhuru, he didn’t show his hand. We saw the late John Michuki more than President Kibaki and that did not draw any attention,” she stated.

She also addressed calls by pundits to deputize the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, stating that any leader who wants to serve Kenyans takes the mantle on where they are designated.

Karua also explain that she never joined forces with DP Ruto since she was never approached by him for a partnership.

She further noted that Kenyans struggled for multi-partyism to be recognized in the law and a single party narrative is dangerous for the interests of the country.

“We are against calls for people to belong to one party. We are cautioning people and telling them to remain in their parties and support multi-partysm,” she continued.
