Africa-Press – Kenya. Former national champions Ulinzi Warriors suffered a 56-51 loss to Platinum Eldonets in Kenya Basketball League match at the Uasin Gishu courts, Eldoret on Saturday.

The soldiers started off badly, trailing 9-17, 9-13 in the first two quarters and even though they took the last two, 17-13 and 16-14, it was too late.

David Kitongo led the scoring chart for Ulinzi sinking 12 points for Ulinzi while Eric Mutoro managed 11.

The home boys were led Jeremiah Aliva who sunk 17, Meshack Oloo bagged 11 and Renny Moibi shot 10.

It was a bad day for Ulinzi as they struggled to hit the target, going scoreless for five minutes in the first quarter.

In a women’s match played at Strathmore University Courts, Swords hit Jomo Kenyatta University of Agricultural and Technology (JKUAT) 56-42. The host led in all but the third quarter, where they trailed 11-10.

The win pushed them from fifth to third spot with 21 points from 12 games.”We did not do well as we collapsed under pressure and this has been our undoing even in previous games,” offered JKUAT coach Peter Kimani.

“It is the same story as we should win. We have been exposed in the premier league and we need to focus.”

Maggie Nereah scored 10 points while Faith Kogei and Mupalia Joy combined for another 16.

For the Juja-based students, Jane Macharia posted 10 points while Sophia Omenda added eight in the loss.

The the lower division match played at the University of Nairobi courts, unbeaten Stanbic Bank beat National Bank of Kenya’Phoenix’ 51-30.
