Africa-Press – Kenya. Veteran Politician Nathan Munoko was on Tuesday finally handed his state recognition medal which he was awarded by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. Munoko is one of the pioneer Kenyan leaders who are still alive.
The medal was presented to him by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on behalf of the Government. Speaking at his Treasury office during the hand over ceremony, Mudavadi described Mzee Munoko as a selfless, dedicated, focused and distinguished leader who served the country in various capacities.
“Today I’m honoured and humbled on behalf of the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto and on behalf of the Kenyan government, to present the State honours awarded by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to one of our leading Icons and pioneer leaders in the country the Hon Nathan Munoko,” he said.
“His state honours of Elder of the Burning Spear recognises him as a leader whom we celebrate for his contribution to the Nation.” Munoko later served as Minister for works from 1975 to 1979.
“During his tenure, he was able to supervise the construction of Mtwapa and Nyali bridges at the Coast in collaboration with the government of Japan at that time,” Mudavadi said.
In 1978 he supervised the construction of the mausoleum of the Late President Jomo Kenyatta. So, we are recognizing a distinguished Kenyan who selflessly and tirelessly dedicated his efforts to work for this country.” Mudavadi said.
Munoko also served in Kanu party in various capacities, including national organizing secretary from 1966 to 1985 then from 1985 to 1988 he was the National Executive officer. Mzee Munoko a one-time teacher, administrator and veterinary officer was born on May 20, 1922.
