Africa-Press – Kenya. Vihiga Queens coach Boniface Nyamunyamu has put Thika Queens on notice saying the 4-1 first-leg loss still hurts his charges and they must be braced for a fight at the Mumias Sports Complex.
Vihiga, the four-time Kenya Women’s Premier League champions, take on 2021 champions Thika Queens on Sunday. Thika outclassed Vihiga early in the season and Nyamunyamu said it is time for vengeance, especially playing in their backyard.
“Mumias is a fortress. The 4-1 loss against Thika is our heaviest defeat this season. We haven’t forgotten that. We have to win at all costs. Revenge could be the only way to get out of the losing feeling,” Nyamunyamu said.
Vihiga will still be without Providence Khasiala and Faith Marende for the Thika tie.
Thika on the other hand, have more than five players currently on the treatment table, a situation that has led to a dip in form in the second leg where the team has lost the last two consecutive matches.
“We cannot afford to underrate them irrespective of their miseries. Football is funny and complacency is uncalled for. We are not resting on our laurels. We are going for maximum points. Form doesn’t matter in big matches, “he added.
We need to approach the game with a winning mentality and that calls for hard work and focus.
There are five matches to the end of the season with Vihiga and Gaspo Women locked in the title fight. The winner could be decided on the last day of the season according to Nyamunyamu.
“We are tied up on 37 points with them (Gaspo). We play them in the last match at the Gems Cambridge in the ultimate match. The title will be won or lost here.”
