Africa-Press – Kenya. The National Government assured the public that the county is ready to host the 60th Madaraka Day celebrations on Thursday. The event will take place at Moi Stadium in Embu County and will be presided over by President William Ruto.
Eastern regional commissioner Paul Rotich said the county expects about 10,000 people. The gates will be open as early as 4 am. During the celebrations, the President will have a chance to make a speech.
Kenyans have expectations of the outcome of the president’s speech as most of the time he gives clarity on things and sometimes promises goodies. The Star did street interviews to get to hear Kenyans expectations of the Madaraka event.
Here are some of them: Wiklif Anzenze, a Nairobi resident “I would like the president to address the issue of high food prices, as a man it is hard to work on an empty stomach and perform family duties since there is no enough food and we are unemployed.”
Susan Wangari, Kangemi Kibagare slums: “I expect the president to address the issue of the high cost of living, l voted for him because he promised to take care of mama mboga and boda-boda guys.
” Also, getting proper medication is very expensive, especially for people like me that are diabetic, l expect the president to look into the matter.” Francis Mwirikha
“I am a strong supporter of Kenya Kwanza and l am not against the increment of food prices but we need a source of living so as to afford basic needs and be able to pay taxes.” James Onunga Mbere, Kawangware resident.
“The President should address the high cost of living and find a solution since the simple salary that we get can not cater for our needs as it used to before, food is a basic need and one works better when they have eaten.”
Philemon Kaseini, a resident of Nairobi. “I expect the President to talk about the high price of unga and fuel, l voted for the president but l am still jobless, as Kenyans we are suffering.”
Carlos Mburia, Kangemi resident. “I expect the president to give a solution on the gas prices as promised and for him to bring back Kazi Mtaani, we are unemployed.”
