Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Women’s Premier League side Wadadia have been dealt a major blow after midfielder Phoebe Achieng was ruled out of this weekend’s game against Ulinzi Starlets at Mumias Sports Complex.
Achieng, 17, sustained an ankle injury in Wadadia’s 4-1 rout of Thika Queens at Stima Club, Nairobi on Sunday. The Form Four student at St. Joseph’s Mumias was withdrawn in the second half. Coach Rashid Sumba said the defensive midfielder has been playing with the injury for a while and will likely be out for two weeks.
“Achieng is obviously out of the Ulinzi match. She has been struggling with the injury since we played Bunyore Starlets. An ankle is one of the delicate parts to manage so she needs careful handling,” Sumba said.
Achieng has been an integral part of Wadadia but Sumba remains unperturbed. “We already have a replacement even though she’s made the position her own,” Sumba added.
Defender Lynn Omondi, who sustained a cracked ankle in August last year during a pre-season friendly match in Siaya, is yet to feature this season. “We are worried Omondi might not play any part this season,” said Sumba.
