Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has rewarded the Harambee Starlets with Ksh. 5 million and announced further incentives ahead of their 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifier against Gambia this afternoon.
The Head of State has promised an additional Ksh. 5 million if the Starlets win at home and Ksh. 2.5 million should the match end in a draw.
For the return leg in Senegal on Monday, President Ruto has pledged Ksh. 1 million to each player if the team wins and qualifies, and Ksh. 500,000 each if they secure a draw and still advance.
During the last WAFCON held in Cameroon in 2016, Harambee Starlets were pooled in Group B alongside Nigeria, who eventually won the title, Mali, and Ghana. They started their campaign with a 3-1 defeat against Ghana, before losing their matchday two fixture 3-1.
Kenya concluded their preliminary round fixtures without a win after going down 4-0 against Nigeria’s Super Falcons at Stade Omnisport de Limbe.
