Africa-Press – Kenya. Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has dismissed claims that she is joining former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political camp, stressing her independence as the 2027 elections draw nearer.
Speaking on Friday, December 5, 2025, Waiguru told her supporters, “kwa Wamunyoro siendi,” meaning she is not joining Gachagua’s camp, signalling that she will not align herself with the emerging faction affiliated with the DCP leader.
She also urged her followers to remain patient, noting that the elections are still some time away, and warned against hasty political alignments that could compromise their strategic positioning.
The governor also weighed in on the ongoing speculation around Gachagua’s camp.
She questioned the rationale behind following a political movement that, in her view, lacks any parliamentary representation.
“Then where are they following Gachagua to take them?” she asked, as she claimed there was a lack of clear purpose in the camp’s political ambitions.
Waiguru further criticized Gachagua’s political trajectory, stating he does not know where he is going and dismissed suggestions that he could vie for the presidency.
According to her, the Constitution bars him from contesting the office, and she claimed that making any such speculation is baseless.
Waiguru’s remarks come amid growing speculation over political realignments in Mt Kenya, a region known for its kingmaker influence in national elections.
She also disputed the former deputy president’s claim to be the Mt. Kenya’s kingpin, citing that former president Uhuru Kenyatta, still holds the title.
“As the Kikuyu community, we do not want to be separated from other communities in Kenya. Our votes alone are not enough; we are part of 43 communities. Even when Uhuru became president, it was not only our community that elected him,” she said.
She also urged her supporters from Mt Kenya to remain focused, patient, and united.
