Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has said 2026 will mark a defining turning point in Kenya’s national journey, arguing that the country has moved beyond uncertainty and is now firmly on a deliberate path toward long-term prosperity.

In remarks delivered during a New Year address to the nation, the President said the government had put in place clear targets and a structured roadmap that would guide the country through a critical phase of transformation.

He rejected suggestions that Kenya’s economic and political trajectory was uncertain, insisting that the current direction was the product of careful planning rather than chance.

“We are not drifting. We are not gambling. We have set our targets, we have begun the journey, and we now have a clear road map to make 2026 a defining year in Kenya’s history,” Ruto said.

He described the address as more than a routine end-of-year message, saying it was a call to collective action and national unity.

According to the President, the coming period demands shared responsibility as the country seeks to complete reforms and development efforts that have taken years to initiate.

“Tonight, fellow citizens, this is not just a customary New Year address. It is a moment that calls on all of us to seize the opportunity before us to walk together as one people and to complete a journey that has been delayed for far too long,” he said.

Ruto said 2026 would stand out in the country’s history as a moment when Kenya decisively shifted from unrealised potential to measurable progress.

He framed the year as a historical marker that future generations would identify as the point at which the nation altered its course toward sustainable growth.

“2026 will be a watershed year in the story of our republic, a turning point in our march from promise to prosperity, a year that future generations will look back on and say that is when Kenya changed course,” the President said.

He added that the confidence with which the government speaks about the future is anchored in the groundwork already laid.

Ruto said the administration had confronted significant challenges, made difficult decisions, and converted obstacles into opportunities, resulting in a strong foundation for the years ahead.

“We can speak of this moment with confidence, because we are not starting from nothing. We confronted difficulties, carved out opportunities and laid a strong and formidable base for the future of our country,” he said.

The President said the focus in the coming year would be on consolidating gains, maintaining momentum, and ensuring that the benefits of progress are broadly shared.

He reiterated that unity, discipline, and collective purpose would be critical as Kenya approaches what he described as a defining chapter in its national story.
