Africa-Press – Kenya. UDA elections board has assured supporters in Homa Bay of a credible party elections exercise devoid of opponents’ infiltration at the grass roots.

The elections which are expected to begin this Friday are perceived as one of the strategies that the President William Ruto-led party is putting in place to establish its vigour in Homa Bay.

Homa Bay is perceived as an ODM stronghold but UDA is exploring all avenues to enhance its popularity in the county.

UDA National Elections Board members Halake Diida and Lydia Munika alleged that the board had got information that their opponents spreading political propaganda aimed at causing irregularities in the elections.

The board officials accompanied by the party coordinator in Nyanza region Agrey Otore, acting chairman in Homa Bay County Kennedy Obuya and member Martin Ogindo said they have put modalities in place to ensure a peaceful exercise.

“UDA is ready to undertake the internal party elections in a free and fair way. Appropriate measures have been put in place to ensure only genuine supporters are elected as party officials,” Munika said.

Speaking at UDA offices in Homa Bay town during sensitisation of the party members on the planned elections on Wednesday, Munika said they will not allow their opponents to succeed in jeopardising the elections.

UDA has high hopes of establishing a new support base in Homa Bay.

“We want to make Homa Bay one of our new strongholds. The party survey reveals that many Homa Bay residents believe in the party ideologies and we must safeguard their interests,” she said.

Diida said they are going to ensure the election is conducted freely and fairly.

“Home Bay residents should know that we’re going to use the party register to ensure that only UDA members vote. This is for the interests of the party members,” Diida said.

He said they are going to conduct the election in a manner that will enable the will of the people to prevail.

Otore told UDA members to come out in large numbers to participate in the election.

“We call for peace during the election and we want our members not to fear anything,” Otore said.

Ogindo told residents to use the opportunity to elect competent officials who can run UDA affairs in Homa Bay County.

“We want to ensure UDA conducts an election that will give us officials who have the capability of promoting the ideologies of UDA party effectively,” Ogindo said.

Obuya and assistant coordinator Kennedy Ongati said the rules put in place will enhance transparency and accountability in the elections.

“We want a peaceful and credible election to ensure that the officials elected have the ability to promote the agenda of UDA across all the eight constituencies in Homa Bay,” Obuya said.

Ongati said the measures in place will enable the election to be conducted successfully.
