Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has affirmed that the Executive is committed to continuing working with Commissions and Independent Offices.
He said the William Ruto administration will continue to be guided by the principle of collaboration and cooperation between the arms of government aiming for a better Kenya.
“I affirm the commitment of the Executive Arm of the Government to the Commissions and the Independent Offices as envisioned by the framers of our Constitution,” he said.
He spoke on Sunday evening during an informal fireside chat with the Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Gachagua termed the meeting as “a moment of listening and learning”.
The DP noted that Commissions and Independent Offices are key structures for safeguarding the national values and principles of governance as enshrined in the Constitution.
He stated that for smooth service delivery to Kenyans, the government will always seek to strengthen the engagements.
He said this was the reason the Executive commenced an engagement with Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices to its working framework and strategise together going forward.
“This is geared towards a joint strategic approach to independence, accountability, mutual respect, and collaboration for a better Kenya. We all have one common denominator- the People of the Republic of Kenya,” the DP said.
He vowed that they would continue having such engagements within the framework of the Constitution for shared implementation and achievement of national goals.
Gachagua was joined by Chief Justice Martha Koome, Attorney General Justin Muturi, Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguru and Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
Also present was the Chairperson National Lands Commission Gershom Otachi.
The Commissions and Independent Offices are created by Chapter 15 of the Constitution or acts of Parliament.
The commissions include the Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC), National Land Commission (NLC), Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) and Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Others are the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), Public Service Commission (PSC), Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), Teachers Service Commission (TSC), National Police Service Commission (NPSC), Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) and Nairobi Rivers Commission.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) are also Commissions. They are formed by acts of Parliament.
The independent offices are the Auditor-General and Controller of the Budget.
