Africa-Press – Kenya. Governor Joseph Lenku has dispelled the fear that the direction given by the election petition court on Tuesday could pave his exit. Lenku assured his followers that vote recounting, scrutiny and tallying are normal procedures in election petitions.

The election petition court in Nairobi on Tuesday issued fresh directions in the case in court, saying fresh scrutiny should be done in 16 polling stations. Lenku said the ruling provided by the court is part of the tail-end process in the election petition.

The court said a recount and scrutiny of 16 polling stations should be conducted. It also said, tallying of gubernatorial votes be done for Kajiado West and Kajiado South constituencies.

“It is one of the tools used by the court to determine the integrity and verifiability of the election. It aids the court to decide at the final judgement,” said Lenku.

It is rare for election petitions to be concluded without this process of recounting and scrutiny of results in selected polling stations, added Lenku.

Governor Lenku’s counsels, political team and supporters, are glad that the election petition is on the final stretch and that the outcome will confirm the will of the people of Kajiado.
