Africa-Press – Kenya. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula was Thursday forced to adjourn the House sitting after Azimio lawmakers became disorderly interrupting the proceedings.
The chaos ensued after Wetangula ruled that the Kenya Kwanza coalition is the Majority in the National Assembly
The speaker made the ruling amidst protest from the Minority Azimio members.
Wetangula in a ruling said the 14 members who belong to four parties which have distanced themselves from Azimio are rightfully in Kenya Kwanza.
The Parties are MDG, UDM, MCC and PAA.
Wetangula said apart from the petitions lodged by the parties before the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal to disengage from Azimio, the 14 lawmakers have also written to his office confirming their membership to the ruling Kenya Kwanza.
According to the over one-hour ruling, Kenya Kwanza now has 179 members in the National Assembly against Azimio’s 157.
“This by implication means that Kenya Kwanza is the Majority and Azimio is the Minority,” Wetangula ruled.
Kenya Kwanza and Azimio La Umoja had over the last month locked horns on the Majority status with each side claiming the recognition as the Majority.
On Tuesday, Wetangula allowed the House to ventilate on the issue before he retreated to make a ruling.
