Africa-Press – Kenya. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has praised the Kenya Kwanza government for steering the country’s economic revival but cautioned leaders against sliding back into divisive politics that could derail progress.

Wetang’ula said President William Ruto’s administration has unlocked stalled projects, expanded youth and women empowerment programs, and boosted key sectors such as agriculture and education.

Speaking in Bogusero Ward, Kisii County Thursday, the Speaker urged leaders to channel their energy into uniting the country and driving development rather than trading insults.

“The government is committed to improving all sectors of the economy. The President is keen on raising education standards by recruiting more teachers, opening up new roads, and boosting agricultural productivity,” he said.

He highlighted youth empowerment as a priority, revealing that 70 youths in every ward will each receive Sh50,000 to support small and micro enterprises.

“This will advance economic independence and drive progressive development. No community should be left out of the country’s grand economic plan,” he added.

The Speaker also appealed for tolerance in national politics.

“Let us enjoy our constitutional rights without insults, abuse, or threats. Leaders must weigh their words if we want a better-governed country,” he cautioned.

Wetang’ula was flanked by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, who challenged Gusii leaders to rise above ethnic politics.

“Our words must foster peace and unity. Nobody has the monopoly to restrict movement. Kenyans will make their choice at the ballot, and we will cross the bridge on who becomes President when we reach 2027,” he said.

Cheruiyot defended President William Ruto’s leadership, arguing that the presidency requires energy and broad-based support.

“I look at our opponents and wonder if they can match our spirit and effort. Kenya Kwanza will continue traversing the country to make peace and create a conducive environment for economic growth,” he said.

Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya lauded government-led empowerment programs, saying they demonstrate the impact of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

“We have set our goals right. President Ruto is leading the country in the right direction,” she noted.

Other leaders, including Emurua Dikirr MP Jonah Ngeno, Majority Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro, and Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri, echoed calls for the Gusii community to seize development opportunities under the current administration rather than drift into opposition politics.

They were joined by MPs Japheth Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North), Alfa Miruka (Bomachoge Chache), Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango), Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira County Woman Rep), and Nominated MP Rene Nyakerario
