Africa-Press – Kenya. Lang’ata MP Phelix Odwiour has said the writing was on the wall from the onset that National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula would rule in favour of Kenya Kwanza over the majority impasse.

The first-time MP, better known as Jalang’o, said this became obvious the moment the former Bungoma senator was elected speaker.

“I knew we were in trouble from the first day this came to the floor of the House. There was no way Wetang’ula was going to rule in favour of Azimio ,” Jalang’o said on Friday in a Tv interview.

President William Ruto’s abrupt visit to Parliament on Tuesday raised eye brows in the Azimio camp with some linking the visit to Thursday’s ruling on the majority standoff.

Wetang’ula ruled that the Kenya Kwanza Coalition has majority membership in the 13th Parliament.

He said not a single MP was elected under the Azimio ticket and legislators whose individual parties are affiliated to the coalition cannot be deemed to be party members of the giant outfit.

“The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition political party nominated members under the names of its constituent parties,” he said.

He further poked holes into the Azimio saying that some people who were in Azimio denounced the party.

Initially, Azimio had majority membership in line with its pre-election pact with affiliate parties but some parties left the coalition after elections.

Jalang’o, a former comedian cum radio presenter however pledged his unwavering support for Azimio despite being a close friend to President William Ruto.

“For now, I’m happy in my party – ODM, I’m happy and contented in Azimio, that does not change the fact that the President is a personal friend,”he said.

On Tuesday, the MP shared light moments with Ruto when the head of State paid a surprise visit to Parliament buildings.

Jalang’o shared photos of the moment, warming the hearts of his followers on social media.

One captured Jalang’o shaking hands with Ruto as they embraced each other.

Jalang’o captioned it saying Ruto had issued title deeds for the Nairobi slum upgrading project which seeks to construct decent houses for slum dwellers.

“With that done, we can confidently say that the commencement of the zone B Highrise is set to begin later this month when the President will come to launch the project.”

Construction of the 4,500 housing units will see more Lang’ata residents live in better houses with dignity, Jalang’o said.
