Africa-Press – Kenya. Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has disclosed that former Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut narrowly escaped death several times.

While mourning his death Saturday, Duale described the former MP as a live person who was full of humility as he mingled with colleagues and Kenyans.

It is while describing his admirable and humbling character that he disclosed that he had several dates with death but still managed to come out alive.

“Personally, I will remember him for his humility and consistency in carrying along the human heart into places that saw power corrupt many others. Hon. Chepkut, ‘The only soul alive’, as he had loved to call himself, had narrowly dodged death a number of times,” Duale tweeted.

He further opined that the near-death incidents shaped his life and morals that he lived a life of serving people wholeheartedly.

“These near-death incidents, in the face of political power, prestige and privilege, reminded him of his own mortality. And, he lived like a good leader should: With the people he served at heart. Spreading love and laughter.”

Duale, however, did not disclose finer details of instances and how he survived the death threats.

He continued to remember Chepkut as a selfless person who through their interactions in parliament oozed humour and wisdom.

“He was an ever cheerful character, a humourous debater and of everything else, as an MP, he loved and served the people of Ainabkoi Constituency passionately,” Duale added.

“Death has finally claimed a selfless Statesman. William is gone, but his words and deeds will forever stay with us. My heartfelt commiserations to the family, friends and people of Ainabkoi for losing such a gallant son of the soil.”
