Africa-Press – Kenya. With the choice of Martha Karua as Raila Odinga’s running mate in the runup to the August 9 general elections, the gender factor has found its footing in the counties, Kiambu not being an exemption.

Kiambu Governor male aspirants have picked women to deputize them, making them dominant for the running mate positions.

Incumbent Governor James Nyoro has nominated June Njambi Waweru from Kiambu East.

Njambi has extensive experience in the medical sector and has worked vastly with the youth in community service.

“It’s a balance between politics and professional experience. She has experience in the medical sector. By her choice, inclusivity and regional balance have been achieved in both Kiambu East and West,” said Nyoro during the unveiling event.

“I’m confident that Dr Waweru has the perfect attributes and together, we will steer Kiambu to the next level.”

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has picked her former Cabinet Executive Committee Member (CECM) for education and social services Esther Ndirangu as his running mate.

Ndirangu comes from Kikuyu Subcounty in Kiambu West region while Kabogo hails from Ruiru, Kiambu East.

Kabogo is running for the position under the Tujibebe Wakenya party. Ndirangu brings vast experience in the education sector and she is conversant with the Kiambu electorate after serving them for five years as a CECM.

She is credited for having uplifted both Early Childhood Development Education (ECDEs) centres and Vocation Training Centers in Kiambu. She started the Uji (porridge) programmes for the young ones in the ECDEs.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who is running on his Chama Cha Kazi party ticket has picked the youthful real estate entrepreneur Faith Mwaura as his running mate for the governor race.

Mwaura holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Daystar University and MSc Degree in Real Estate from Heriot Watt University in Scotland.

Thika MP Patrick Wainaina wa Jungle who is eyeing the Kiambu top seat has picked former Kiambu Women Representative Anne Nyokabi Gatheca, a cousin to President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.

Gatheca was also vying for the governorship under Jubilee Party but lost the nomination ticket to Nyoro. She has dropped her bid in support of Jungle, who is now eyeing the seat on an independent ticket after losing in UDA nominations.

UDA’s governor nominee Kimani Wamatangi is said to have picked a woman but he has not announced who his running mate will be. Efforts to reach him were futile but sources close to him revealed that he will unveil her tomorrow.

Also in the race is ICT guru Judy Mwende Gatabaki who is running on a Safina party ticket. Gatabaki confirmed to the Star that she has picked Mr David Wanjohi from Kinoo Ward in Kabete as her running mate.

Wanjohi who is also the Executive Director of the Safina Party holds a degree in political science from the University of Nairobi.

“He compliments my candidature with over 20 years of political, governance, and administrative experience.”
