You were taken to ICC over your ills - Karua tells Ruto

Africa-Press – Kenya. Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has reproved President William Ruto over his statement on why he landed at The Hague. Karua told Ruto he got to the International Criminals Court (ICC) for his actions and not for supporting Azimio leader Raila Odinga, as he had stated.

She spoke on Sunday during a church service at Embakasi East. “Ni wengi walimpigania kinara wetu na hawakupelekwa ICC. Wewe ulipelekwa kwa sababu ya vitendo vyako.Wacha kutaja baba,” she said.

This is loosely translated to, “Many supported our leader but were not taken to ICC. You were taken there over your actions. Stop mentioning Baba.” Speaking in Migori on Saturday, Ruto said his unwavering support for Raila was the reason he was taken to ICC.

“When things became tough and he became the Prime Minister I am the one who was taken to The Hague because of him,” he said. Karua said other politicians in the ODM party had supported Raila but did not face any charges at the court.

“I supported former President Mwai Kibaki back then but I wasn’t taken to ICC. If I had committed wrongs, I’d have been with him over there,” she said.

She told Ruto he was well aware of what he had done back then, adding that if he repeated the same, he will be taken back to The Hague. She however did not mention any particulars.

“If you sent others to do that and human rights are violated tomorrow (Monday), your name will be mentioned in it. Don’t commit the same mistake twice,” she said. The leader affirmed that the Azimio protests scheduled during the week will be peaceful. “On our part, we shall hold peaceful protests,” Karua said.
