1,523 Test Positive as 340,000 are Vaccinated

AfricaPress-Kenya: 1,523 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 7,423 tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 20.5 percent.

The total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 141,365, while the cumulative tests conducted so far are 1,530, 736.

Of the cases announced today, 1,432 are Kenyans while 91 are foreigners, while 842 are male and 681 are female. The youngest is a three month- old-infant while the oldest is 105- years-old.

Regrettably, 18 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours all of them are late death reports from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates. This now pushes our cumulative fatalities to 2,276.

At the same time, 616 patients have recovered from the disease, 522 from the Home Based and Isolation Care, while 94 are from various health facilities.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 97,194.

Currently, 1,591 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,112 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

236 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit ( ICU ), 53 of whom are on ventilatory support and 150 on supplemental oxygen. 33 patients are on observation.

Another 253 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 238 of them in the general wards and 15 in the High Dependency Unit ( HDU ) .

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (52), 10-19 years (69), 20-29 years (225), 30-39 years (371), 40-49 years (288), 50-59 years (243), 60 and above (275).

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 626, Kiambu 142, Uasin Gishu 108, Nakuru 92, Mombasa 65, Kericho 46, Murang’a 45, Kisumu 36, Kilifi 36, Machakos 36, Turkana 34, Nandi 30, Makueni 29, Kajiado 27, Meru 19, Kakamega 17, Taita Taveta 15, Nyandarua 14, Embu 13, Busia 12, Nyeri 11, Garissa 10, Laikipia 10, Siaya 9, Kitui 8, Kisii 7, Baringo 3, Kwale 3, Mandera 3,

In terms of Sub County distribution; In Nairobi the 626 cases are from Westlands (92), Dagoretti North (57), Lang’ata (44), Starehe (43), Kasarani (41), Kamukunji (39), Roysambu (38), Embakasi East (34), Embakasi West (32), Embakasi Central and Makadara (29) cases each, Embakasi North (28), Ruaraka (27), Embakasi South and Mathare (24) cases each, Dagoretti South (23), Kibra (22). In Kiambu the 142 cases are from Ruiru (22),Thika (20), Kiambaa (19), Juja (17), Gatundu South (16), Kikuyu (13), Kabete (10), Kiambu Town (9), Limuru (8), Lari (4), Gatundu North (3), Githunguri (1). In Uasin Gishu the 108 cases are from Ainbakoi (57), Turbo (25), Kapseret (14), Kesses (7), Moiben (4), Soy (1).

In Nakuru the 92 cases are from Nakuru East (21), Nakuru North (17), Naivasha (16), Subukia (8), Gilgil and Nakuru west (7) cases each, Njoro (6), Molo (5), Kuresoi North (3), Kuresoi south and Rongai (1) case each. In Mombasa the 65 cases are from Mvita(24), Jomvu (18), Kisauni (10), Nyali (7), Changamwe and Likoni (3) cases each. In Murang’a the 45 cases are from Kiharu (13), Mathioya (9), Kigumo (7), Murang’a South (6), Gatanga (5), Kandara (4), Kangema (1). In Kisumu the 36 cases are from Kisumu Central (30), Kisumu East and Nyando (2) cases each, Kisumu west and Nyakach (1) case each. In Kilifi the 36 cases are from Malindi (12), Magarini (9), Kilifi North (8), Kaloleni (7). In Machakos the 36 cases are from Machakos Town (15), Athi River (10), Kalama (5), Matungulu (4), Kathiani and Masinga (1) case each. In Turkana all the 34 cases are from Turkana West.

In Nandi the 30 cases are from Erngwen (23), Nandi Hills (3), Aldai, Chesumei, Mosop and Tinderet (1) case each. In Makueni the 29 cases are from Kibwezi West (19), Kibwezi East (6), Kilome (2), Makueni and Mbooni (1) case each. In Kajiado the 27 cases are from Kajiado West (13), Kajiado North (9), Kajiado Central and Loitokitok (2) cases each, Kajiado East (1).

In Meru the 19 cases are from Imenti North and Imenti South (5) cases each, Buuri and Tigania East (3) cases each, Tigania West (2), lgembe Central (1). In Kakamega the 17 cases are from Lugari and Lurambi (4) cases each, Butere, Malava and Shinyalu (2) cases each, Ikolomani, Mumias West and Navakholo (1) case each.

In Taita Taveta the 15 cases are from Taveta (12), Voi (3). In Nyandarua the 14 cases are from OIKalou (12), Kinangop (2). In Embu all the 13 cases are from Manyatta. In Busia the 12 cases are from Matayos and Teso North (5) cases each, Teso South (2). In Nyeri the 11 cases are from Mukurweini and Nyeri south (3) cases each, Mathira East and Nyeri Central (2) cases each, Kieni West (1). In Garissa the 10 cases are from Dadaab (8), Garissa Town (2) while in Laikipia all the 10 cases are from Laikipia East.

In Siaya the 9 cases are from Aego Usonga (6), Gem (2), Bondo (1). In Kitui the 8 cases are from Mwingi Central (5), Mwingi West (2), Kitui Central (1). In Kisii the 7 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (3), Bomachoge Borabu, Bonchari, Kitutu Chache North and South Mugirango (1) case each.

The 3 cases in Baringo are from Baringo Central, Baringo North and Koibatek (1) case each, the 3 cases in Kwale are from Msambweni (2), Lunga Lunga (1), the 3 cases in Mandera are from Mandera East (2) and Mandera North (1), the 3 cases in Nyamira are from Nyamira Town (2) and Manga (1) while the 3 cases in Trans Nzoia are from Cherangany, Kiminini and Kwanza (1) case each.

In Kirinyaga the 2 cases are from Kirinyaga Central and Mwea West (1) case each, while in Vihiga the 2 cases are from Emuhaya and Luanda (1) case each.

The case in Narok is from Narok East, the case in Tharaka Nithi is from Chuka, the case in West Pokot is from West Pokot, the case in Bungoma is from Bumula, the case in Elgeyo Marakwet is from Keiyo North, the case in Homa Bay is from Homa Bay Town and the case in Isiolo is from Garbatulla.

VACCINATION: As of yesterday, a total of 339,893 people had been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine. From this number 99,084 are Health Workers, 27, 945 Security Officers, 45,877 Teachers and 166,987 are other members of the public who include those at 58 years and above. Another 228 people have also been vaccinated with the Sputnik vaccine bringing the number of those vaccinated to 340,121. In terms of Gender 192,746 (57%) Males and 147,147 (43%) are females.

Nairobi County has contributed 33% of the total vaccinated followed by Nakuru and Uasin Gishu Counties at 7% and 6% respectively. Lamu County with uptake of 248 persons vaccinated has consistently remained lower since the exercise started.
