AfricaPress-Kenya: The Kenya Defense Force has announced changes in the leadership in Somalia after Paul Kahuria Njema handed over office to incoming commander Jeff Nyaga in a ceremony held to mark the change of command at the AMISOM Sector II Headquarters in Dhobley, which is under the KDF.
Brigadier Njema, who was the commander of the 9th KDF contingent, took over from Brig. Dickson Rutto in February 2020. He thanked the soldiers for their teamwork, resilience, and discipline, during the handing over ceremony.
Njema noted that the KDF troops had reduced Alshabaab in the area and called for further action to push them out completely.
Nyagah applauded his forerunner and the troops for their dedication, service to humanity, and accomplishments.
He vowed his commitment in the operations against the Alshabaab.
“We are in high spirits and committed to achieving peace and stability in Somalia in line with the AMISOM mandate,” he remarked.
Brigadier Nyagah assured that his contingent will intensify synergy between the KDF troops and the Somali Security Forces through collaboration in running various operations against Al Shabaab.
He further noted that the tenth contingent will kickstart various Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects to
stabilize the operating environment and impact positively on the lives of the local residents.
In attendance during the change of command ceremony was the Sector Deputy Commander Colonel Pascal Kitiro, outgoing Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Clement Nyakundi, incoming Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Ongeso, Senior Operations Officer Lieutenant Colonel Kennedy Masai, and Commandant Dhobely Level II Hospital Lieutenant Colonel Wilson Koech among others.
