AfricaPress-Kenya: ODM leader Raila Odinga is out of danger, having tested negative for Covid-19.
The news was announced on Wednesday, March 31, by the ODM party on social media stating; “We are happy our Party Leader Raila Odinga has tested negative and is out of danger of Covid-19. We thank God for that. God Bless him, God Bless Kenya.”
Odinga was taken ill on Wednesday, March 10, and was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital. Days later, he make his Covid-19 results public, stating that he had tested positive.
He went into isolation and has been going for check ups from time to time.
The ODM party’s statement followed a meeting by Odinga and the top leadership including; John Mbadi (ODM chairman), Junet Mohammed (National Assembly Minority Whip), Edwin Sifuna (Secretary General), Timothy Bosire (Treasurer) and Gladys Wanga (member of the top leadership of ODM).
In the meeting, the leaders reviewed critical developments in the Country like; issuance of vaccines and the BBI.
“We had a specific focus on the ongoing vaccination campaign and containment measures against Covid-19, the state of the economy and the impact on Kenyans and political developments,” reads an excerpt of Odinga’s statement.
Odinga reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
In the spirit of the handshake, the leaders agreed on the need for parliament to fast track the process and release the document to the public to enable the people of Kenya to have a final say on the constitution.
“We tasked the party and our supporters to continue showing this commitment to the handshake and its wider national goals in word and deed, in the interest of the nation,” he stated.
