ODM leader Raila Odinga did not accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta when he led Kenyans in viewing the body of former President Daniel Moi’s body at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi due to other commitments.
The Africa Union Envoy is reported to have travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Saturday for the ongoing African Union Summit to represent President Uhuru.The summit dubbed “Silencing the Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions For Africa’s Development,” aimed at achieving peace and security in Africa, in accordance with continent’s Agenda 2063.Raila was nowhere to be seen as top leaders gathered at Parliament Buildings to view Mzee Moi’s remains, an incident that left Kenyans asking the whereabouts of the ODM leader.
His absence was telling having accompanied President Uhuru to the US for a national prayer breakfast in Washington DC on Thursday, where they were invited to speak about the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).Uhuru and Raila’s bromance after the handshake led to their invitation in the US, to share the experience of their handshake.
The former Prime Minister has until Monday to pay his last respect to Mzee Moi whose remains will be at Parliament Building for the next three days ahead of a state funeral.
Raila’s son Raila Junior took to his twitter to pass his condolences and that of his famiy to President Moi family and paid his last tribute to the former President.“On behalf of the Odinga’s family, May the Lord grant Moi’s family the comfort they need during this difficult moment and may the soul of Mzee Moi rest in eternal peace,” Raila Junior tweeted after attending the event at Parliament Buildings.
The event was also graced by Deputy President William Ruto, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta among other leaders and ordinary Kenyans from all parts of the country.Ruto, local and international dignitaries had an hour to view Moi’s body before it was opened for members of the public.President Moi’s remains will lie in state at Parliament Building until Monday before a requiem mass is held at Nyayo Stadium and the body transported to his Kabarak home for burial.
