AfricaPress-Kenya: Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday jetted back into the country from a peace mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo and declared his support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

Kalonzo said he had been sent to DRC by President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure the peace process that he began two years ago was intact and fruitful.

The Wiper Party leader welcomed the launch of the signature collection ahead of the referendum slated for June next year.

“I want to say without doubt that the Wiper party fully supports the BBI,” said Kalonzo.

Kalonzo, who was received by Wiper party chairman Chirai Mwakere, senators Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni), Enoch Wambua (Kitui) and MPs Julius Mawathe (Embakasi South), Jessica Mbalu (Kibwezi) and former Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim who is also Wiper’s deputy party leader, said he was ready to drum up support for the document across the country.

President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga launched the BBI signature drive on Wednesday.

“Voters want selfless leaders who are willing to leave power when their time comes in peace and this is what the President is trying to achieve,” said Kalonzo.

He said as a peace ambassador, he was determined to see DRC progress into stability after he oversaw the peace deal signed between the then President Joseph Kabila and opposition leader Etienne Tshekedi.

“President Uhuru gave me a mandate in the DRC and from next week I will present to him a report on the progress,” he said.
