The United Opposition has announced that it will unveil its single presidential flag bearer for the 2027 General Election after the conclusion of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) National Delegates Conference, in a move the coalition claims is aimed at presenting a united front to challenge President William Ruto.

Speaking during the Democratic Party of Kenya’s National Delegates Conference held at Ufungamano House in Nairobi County, opposition leaders also revealed plans to institute legal proceedings against individuals involved in the recent attack targeting DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua at a church in Othaya.

The leaders denounced the incident as an assault on democracy and free expression, pledging to seek justice through legal channels and insisting that political unrest has no place in Kenya’s democratic environment.

DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua used the platform to reaffirm his commitment to opposition unity, stating that personal and party sacrifices would be made to ensure only one presidential candidate is fielded against President Ruto in the 2027 General polls.

Gachagua declared that the opposition was determined to deny President Ruto a second term, insisting that unity was the only path to achieving that goal in 2027.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka echoed the call for unity, announcing plans to convene a national forum bringing together all candidates aligned with the “one-term movement.” He said the meeting would also focus on boosting voter registration nationwide.

Kalonzo noted that expanding voter numbers would be critical in strengthening the opposition’s chances, adding that collective planning would eliminate divisions that could weaken their campaign.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i dismissed claims of internal rifts within the opposition, warning that those banking on divisions would be disappointed. He emphasized that the leaders were committed to standing together.

“For anyone who’s betting on our differences, you will lose your bet. We are going to stand together, and we are going to remain united,” concluded Matiang’i

Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua said the opposition was bound by a shared vision of restoring constitutionalism, accountability, and better governance in the country.

Karua emphasized that the coalition’s unity was driven by principles rather than convenience, with a focus on strengthening institutions and upholding the rule of law.

DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa stressed that unity was not optional, describing it as an imperative if the opposition hoped to unseat President Ruto. He said only one candidate would be fronted to avoid splitting votes.

Speaking last, former Attorney General Justin Muturi said the Democratic Party was ready to play its role in the coalition, asserting that Kenyans were politically aware and eager for change.

“History will judge us not by what we said, but by whether we rose when the nation needed us most,” Concluded Muturi.
