AfricaPress-Kenya: The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Fisheries and Cooperatives was forced to apologise on Thursday, April 1, after a controversial tweet was posted on its account.
The Ministry’s official page had retweeted two controversial tweets under the hashtag Uhuru maliza uende.
“The Ministry apologises for controversial tweets sent out from this account twenty minutes ago, which was temporarily hijacked,” reads an excerpt of their statement.
Further, they stated that necessary security measures had been put in place to safeguard the account.
In one of the posts, the account had retweeted a post from a Twitter user who alleged that President Uhuru Kenyatta was not likeable among the Kenyan citizens.
In yet another tweet, the Ministry had responded to a user who indicated that things were out of hand in the country by saying;
“Our Country has become a sty because of lack of wisdom from our leaders. I hope Kenyans have learnt something this time round,” indicated the tweet that has since been deleted.
ODM spokesperson Phillip Etale dismissed the apology from the ministry and called for the staffer responsible for the tweet to be identified and punished.
“There is no way a Twitter account with less than 2000 followers like the one for the Min of Agriculture can be hacked. Hacked for what purpose. Who cares about what is tweeted on the account. The person who runs it knows what he was doing. Tweeting is not for juveniles.”
“The person running the account is a clown. He has his allegiance elsewhere. He has the official Ministry account & his/her personal account on the same gadget. We need to know his/her name. That person is political,” Etale stated.
A similar incident took place on Monday, March 29, when Inooro TV twitter account responded unprofessionally to Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua.
The moral cop was condemning Radio Presenters who have turned radio into a space for discussing women, sex, feminism and misogyny when the account responded saying; “The same way to degraded Haramabee Stars”
The station was forced to apologise moments later and indicated that it was dealing with the matter internally.
“We apologise for a message posted on this handle in reply to a tweet by Dr. Mutua.
We have since established it was sent by mistake. The message does NOT reflect the views of Inooro TV or Royal Media Services. We are dealing with the matter internally” reads the Inooro TV apology.
