AfricaPress-Kenya: Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o (pictured) has today shocked Kenyans in the latest reshuffle in his county government by appointing himself acting health county executive.In a statement dated March 20, Governor Nyong’o announced new changes but named himself as one of the new executive pending a substantive appointment.
“In the meantime, the Department of Health and Sanitation shall be managed by the governor himself before the appointment of a substantive a county executive member,” the statement reads in part.
The governor said the appointments and the reshuffles he conducted were in order to improve service delivery in the county.After replacing the outgoing health executive Rosemary Obara in in May last year, newly appointed business and marketing executive Judith Miguda was expected to be confirmed but that was not to be as Miguda was handed a new docket.
Miguda, a lecturer before her appointment has been acting for the last 10 months, but the problems bedeviling the sector have not disappeared with rampant strike by medics being witnessed.
And with the new coronavirus pandemic, the governor could be trying to bring in the much needed leadership should the coronavirus situation worsen.Also named in the reshuffle include Joyce Osogo named to head roads, transport and public works.
